Ecrit par un Trent Reznor alors au sommet de son art, mais en plein chaos personnel, The Perfect Drug est tout simplement un morceau énorme, riche et complexe à souhait (très accès Drum'n'Bass). Comme quoi, la dépression peut avoir parfois du bon. Figurant dans la BO du Lost Highway de Lynch (supervisée par Reznor), ce titre a la particularité de n'avoir, hélas, jamais été joué sur scène. Concernant le clip, celui-ci ne contient aucun extrait du long-métrage mais s'inspire de l'oeuvre d'Edward Gorey et du Dracula de Coppola, pour un résultat magnifique.
